DC New 52 Movie Poster Homage Series (2015)
DC Comics Celebrates Classic American Films Across Genres & Generations
Pop culture, the general medium of entertainment, pervades modern cultures around the world. Films and television — both live action and animated — bring fantastic stories to life for global audiences every day like no other medium. It is only natural that comics homage classic and popular movies which permeate our cultural consciousness.
A movie homage frequently mimics a movie poster, which, like some comics, may be highly collectable as well. A movie poster homage is typically one-and-done. Few are published as a series or an extended, planned event. There are exceptions to this rule, however. DC Comics, for example, published movie poster homages for several months in the spring of 2015 for many of their flagship titles.
DC homages a variety of films across a variety of categories – including sci-fi, musical, action, romance, comedy, thriller, martial arts & family-friendly – which in one way or another stands up to the test of time:
- 300 (which oddly enough is a movie adaptation of a comic book series of the same name by Frank Miller)
- 2001: A Space Odyssey
- Beetlejuice
- Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure
- Bullitt
- Enter the Dragon
- Forbidden Planet
- Free Willy
- The Fugitive
- Gone with the Wind
