Marvel Zombies (January 2006 – May 2006)
The Marvel Zombies concept first appeared in Ultimate Fantastic Four #21-23 (2005). In that run, most of the superheroes on Earth were infected by an alien virus and became flesh-eating zombies.
The phenomenon continued with Marvel Zombies (December 2005 – April 2006), a five-issue mini-series written by Robert Kirkman of Walking Dead fame and illustrated by Sean Phillips with cover art by Arthur Suydam. In Marvel Zombies, the zombie superheroes eat nearly all of the human race then begin to travel the universe in search of more sources of food. (All but the second issue of Marvel Zombies were reprinted, again featuring homage covers by Arthur Suydam. The first issue was reprinted 4 times.)
The concept of Marvel Zombies, Marvel’s largest and most powerful group of villains, proved so popular that the concept powered as many as 5 additional mini-series, listed below in chronological order.
- Marvel Zombies (January – May 2006)
- Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness (May – August 2007)
